Feeling good without Compromises.
Why did a family-run insect screen business evolve into a lifestyle brand?
Because good design can be considerate. I wanted to create things that beautify our home while also making a contribution to sustainability, to the appreciation of people and animals, and to a more conscious everyday life.
LIV emerged from a family business that has been manufacturing eco-friendly insect screens for over 50 years. This gave rise to the idea of taking a step further and developing products that are practical, well-conceived, and designed with heart, without compromising on aesthetics or environmental sustainability.
"Heute liegt LIV by Neher in meinen Händen. Ich kümmere mich persönlich um die Weiterentwicklung der Marke und alles, was dazugehört"
Sustainability at Neher
Sustainability is an attitude for us; it is embedded in all our processes and products.
We have equipped the roof of our new logistics hall and our high-bay warehouse with a PV system. With an output of approx. 500 kWp and more than 1,200 modules, we can generate sustainable electricity – and, in purely mathematical terms, even achieve self-sufficiency. However, since we do not always consume the electricity we generate at the same time, we continue to buy and sell it. For years, we have been using waste heat from a combined heat and power plant located directly in front of our company to heat our buildings. The plant is operated with biogas from agricultural residues that are generated during green electricity production. We use the heat produced in this process for heating in winter; in summer, it is also used to dry wood chips.
Especially with LIV by Neher products, we focus on the most environmentally friendly packaging possible: we avoid unnecessary plastic packaging and materials that cannot be recycled. Whenever possible, our suppliers are sourced from the region, which keeps transport routes short.
We have our LIV by Neher insect catcher assembled by Lebenshilfe Landkreis Tuttlingen e.V. In addition, Neher supports social projects and associations with donations, for example Forikolo e.V., an association dedicated to education, agriculture, and basic medical care in Sierra Leone, including the construction and equipping of schools. We also support the Glee Needy association with donations: Glee Needy builds schools and initiates social projects for orphans in Africa. Phönix e.V. is a non-profit association against the sexual abuse of girls and boys. Furthermore, Neher provides financial support for youth work in local sports clubs as well as for medical and social-integrative initiatives and projects.
We are actively committed to insect conservation, not only through our 8,000-square-meter meadow, but also through our insect catcher. For every device sold, we donate 40 cents to the "Netzwerk Blühende Landschaft" (Blooming Landscape Network). That is exactly what it costs to create one square meter of flowering meadow – a small paradise for insects.
