Ombre Candles – soft color gradients that suit your home

Nov 19, 2025 Paola Mazza
Ombré candles give your home a calm, elegant touch – without much effort. They fit on the dining table, on the living room shelf, or make a lovely gift for friends. With just a few steps, you can transform simple taper candles into small design pieces that simply look good.[image_with_animation image_url="5679" image_size="full" animation_type="entrance" animation="None" animation_movement_type="transform_y" hover_animation="none" alignment="center" border_radius="5px" box_shadow="none" image_loading="default" max_width="100%" max_width_mobile="default"]

What you'll need

  • Taper candles (white or light) – you can find beautiful white beeswax candles in our shop
  • Wax remnants in your favorite color or white wax + 100% beeswax crayons (e.g., from Stockmar)
  • A large pot for a double boiler
  • Tall, narrow glasses for dipping (preferably ones you can dispose of afterward)
  • Something to stir with (wooden stick/spoon)
  • Kitchen paper/mat

How to achieve the ombré look

1. Melt the wax
  • Melt colored wax in a double boiler. Or: Melt white wax and color it with small pieces of beeswax crayons.
  • Pour the liquid wax into tall, narrow glasses. Important: Keep the wax nice and hot and liquid – otherwise, the transitions will be uneven and the layer too thick.
2. First dip
  • Dip the candle deep once, let it drip briefly, and dry.
3. Build the color gradient
  • For the second dip, don't dip quite as deep. This creates the soft transition from intense color at the bottom to delicate color at the top.
  • Repeat dipping until you like the effect. Fewer layers are better – too many make the candle thicker and the look uneven.
4. Vary the intensity
  • Do you want more depth? Prepare a second glass with more intensely colored wax. First the lighter, then selectively the darker color – this gives you a beautiful, lively gradient.

Ideas for your style

  • Tone-on-tone: Beige, sand, caramel – soft, warm, and very harmonious.
  • Subtle contrasts: Cream or gray with sage green, terracotta, or night blue – modern but unobtrusive.
  • Sets with rhythm: Dip several candles to different depths – this looks intentionally designed without being too strict.

Decorating tip

Simple glass, ceramic, or metal candle holders allow the color gradient to stand out. A delicate vase with a single branch, some grasses, or baby's breath complements the look – subtle, timeless, and suitable for any season.

Safety & Sustainability

  • Never leave burning candles unattended, keep them away from textiles, place candle holders stably.
  • Collect wax remnants and melt them down again later – this way you reuse materials.
  • Dispose of the glasses after they have cooled, or, if easy to clean, continue to use them as craft glasses.

Have fun trying it out! And if you want to start right away: You can get our beautiful white beeswax candles in our shop. Feel free to show us your favorite ombré colors – we're excited to see which shades move into your home.
